In the Portuguese context, the assessment of music experience has been an area of growing interest, however, the lack of specific instruments suited to the culture and language is still evident. This study's main objective is to translate, adapt and validate the Brief Music Experience Questionnaire (BMEQ) for the Portuguese population. The sample consists of 369 adults, 64.5% men and 35.5% women, aged between 18 and 67 years old, with an average of 34 years old. The Portuguese version of the BMEQ, the Continuum Mental Health Scale and the Anxiety, Depression and Stress Scale were used for data collection. The translated and adapted version of the BMEQ demonstrated good psychometric properties in terms of sensitivity and fidelity. The main components analysis revealed the existence of 6 factors, interpreted in the subscales: commitment to music; innovative musical aptitude; social connection; emotional reaction; positive psychoactive effect; behavioral reaction to music, which explain about 60% of the instrument's variance. Good results were also found in terms of internal and external validity, indicating that this presents itself as a valid instrument for evaluating individual subjective experience with music, whether for researchers or teachers in the national context.
