This article, part of my doctoral research, explores the integration of contemporary music into trombone teaching in Portugal, focusing on preliminary results and the pedagogical reflections that emerge from this practice. The study adopts an Action-Research methodology, structured in cycles of planning, action, and reflection, to evaluate the impact of this repertoire on students' technical and creative development. Initial data indicate significant resistance due to the lack of accessible repertoire and specialized training among teachers. However, gradual exposure to this musical genre has proven effective in stimulating creativity and promoting new forms of sonic expression. The study highlights the importance of pedagogical strategies that balance tradition and innovation, such as the creation of specific teaching resources, continuous teacher training, and the promotion of collaborations with composers. Pedagogical reflections suggest that contemporary music, when integrated in a structured manner, enriches music education and prepares students for a more diverse and culturally relevant artistic landscape.
