Code of Ethics and Good Practices
The Revista Portuguesa de Educação Musical is a scientific, peer-reviewed publication that is open-access and free of charge. It upholds the principles of the Code of Ethics and Good Practices in accordance with the Code of Conduct and Standards of Good Practice of the Committee on Publication Ethics [COPE] and the Code of Ethics of the British Educational Research Association [BERA].
The ethical conduct standards of the Revista Portuguesa de Educação Musical are based on respect for human rights, integrity, and the dignity of each individual.
Authors
Authors must ensure that the manuscript submitted to the Revista Portuguesa de Educação Musical aligns with its scope and editorial principles, presenting quality and relevance for international dissemination. In co-authorship cases, the authors' order should reflect the degree of contribution and responsibility of each one, and the individual contribution of each author must be explicitly stated in the manuscript according to the Contributor Role Taxonomy [CRediT].
Authors must ensure that the manuscript submitted is original, has not been previously published, and is not being considered for publication elsewhere. Articles published in a language other than that of the journal and that can be translated are considered exceptions, with the original citation properly identified.
They must declare the absence of any conflicts of interest (financial, institutional, personal, or otherwise), identify funding sources (research process and/or manuscript), and, when requested, share data with the Editorial Board. If errors are found after publication, authors must promptly notify the editor for correction.
Authors ensure the originality of their work, committing not to falsify data or plagiarize. The use of Artificial Intelligence should be limited to improving the text. This use must be clearly mentioned, and authors are responsible for ensuring that they have the necessary rights to use such content, particularly in accordance with the AI copyright licence.
Endogamic practices should be minimised: i) the manuscript should not contain more than 20% self-citations (either from the journal or the authors); ii) the proportion of research articles published where at least one of the authors is an editor, member of the editorial board or reviewer should not exceed 25% in either of the last two issues.
Authors must properly reference other authors and obtain informed consent from participants or their legal representatives, when necessary. If applicable, the manuscript should indicate the existence of a positive opinion from an Ethics Committee or equivalent (e.g., Institutional Review Board). If audiovisual material is included, authors must indicate the existence of authorisation from the participants.
Respect for diversity, dignity, and human rights is mandatory. The language used in manuscripts must be inclusive and non-discriminatory, and the confidentiality of sensitive data must be preserved throughout the research process.
Editorial Board
The Editor-in-Chief and the Associate Editors of the Revista Portuguesa de Educação Musical assume scientific responsibility for the dissemination of rigorous, open-access knowledge. They must ensure the quality, originality, and relevance of the articles published, ensuring the peer review process (minimum of two reviewers) and plagiarism verification.
The Editor-in-Chief and the Associate Editors are not allowed to submit articles to the journal during their term of office, except for special issues and thematic editions. They must keep authors informed throughout the editorial process, ensure confidentiality in the double-blind review system, and supervise the ethical conduct of all parties involved.
Cases of misconduct, such as plagiarism, are addressed according to the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics [COPE]. The Editors-in-Chief and the Associated Editors are committed to correcting, retracting, or clarifying content whenever necessary, maintaining editorial independence.
Editorial decisions are impartial and not influenced by factors such as the authors' origin, nationality, religion, race, or beliefs. Texts containing offensive or discriminatory language will not be accepted for review.
The sharing or use of data, content, or texts before the publication of articles is only allowed with the prior, explicit, and written consent of the authors. After publication, the rights established under the Creative Commons CC BY-NC 4.0 licence apply.
Reviewers
Reviewers of the Revista Portuguesa de Educação Musical must act with professional, scientific, and academic responsibility, providing quality reviews within the established deadlines and following the journal's criteria.
They must ensure the integrity of the review process, maintaining an impartial, honest, and constructive approach. Reviewers must alert the Editorial Board to any potential ethical violations and declare conflicts of interest.
The manuscript's confidentiality must be respected and should not be discussed or used for personal gain. The language used in the review process must be respectful, objective, and free of bias, ensuring respect for diversity, dignity, and human rights.
